AI Document Search for Solar Energy Company - Screenshot 1

Project Overview

ib vogt is a global solar energy company with thousands of technical documents scattered across SharePoint—installation specs, compliance guides, engineering calculations, regulatory filings. Engineers were spending hours searching for the right document, sometimes giving up entirely. Built an AI-powered search system integrated with Microsoft Teams and Copilot that finds exactly what they need in seconds, understanding natural language queries and surfacing the most relevant results from their entire document library.

The Challenge

With operations spanning multiple countries and decades of accumulated documentation, finding the right technical document was a major productivity drain. Engineers needed specific installation specs, compliance requirements, or past project data but had no way to search effectively. The existing SharePoint search was keyword-based and missed relevant documents constantly. Some searches took 3+ hours, and critical information was often never found at all.

Solution

Built an intelligent document search system using Azure AI Search integrated directly into Microsoft Teams via Copilot. The system indexes their entire SharePoint library, understands natural language queries like 'solar panel specs for 50MW projects in Germany,' and returns ranked results with relevance scores. Engineers now find documents in seconds instead of hours, with the AI understanding context and surfacing related documents they didn't even know to search for.
